Launched in 2016, Grantmakers for Thriving Youth (GTY) is a funders’ forum promoting equitable systems, structures, and opportunities for a comprehensive approach to learning and development so all young people can build and strengthen the skills and capacities they need to thrive in learning, work, citizenship, and life. The Collaborative caught up with GTY member Megan Smedsrud, Senior Impact Officer, Greater Tacoma Community Foundation.
Why GTY Membership Matters
Since joining GTY, I’ve become part of a dynamic, national community of philanthropists and practitioners united by a shared commitment to young people’s well‑being. Through both in‑person convenings and virtual gatherings I’ve learned about cutting‑edge research, real‑world practices, evolving policies, and heard the voices of youth themselves. GTY offers an intentionally equity-rooted space, where learning, relationship‑building, and meaningful action are not just encouraged—they’re woven into the fabric of our collective work.
How GTY Elevates Philanthropy’s Reach
GTY embodies the belief that collaboration deepens impact. By facilitating meaningful peer connections, providing strategic support, and hosting knowledge‑rich presentations, GTY empowers funders to align, and decisively so. It’s a space that nurtures shared learning and fuels connectivity so philanthropy can create pathways for youth to thrive.
