The Philanthropic Collaborative for Education exists to support funders working for a just future public education system. Staff at The Collaborative often work behind the scenes but with our Meet the Team series you’ll learn more about how we work and who we are. Today we meet Lexus Whitfield, Network Manager for the Education Funders Strategy Group.
What is your role at The Collaborative?

I am the Network Manager for the Education Funder Strategy Group (EFSG) at The Collaborative. I support a group of education funders by helping keep everyone connected, aligned, and moving toward shared goals. Day to day, my work is a mix of coordination and relationship-building. I help plan meetings, manage communications, and keep projects on track, but I also spend a lot of time making sure people feel engaged and supported in the network. I connect folks across organizations, share resources, and help turn ideas into action. At its core, my role is about making collaboration easier and more meaningful so the group can focus on creating impact in education.
What experience do you bring to this work?
I bring experience in network coordination, stakeholder engagement, and facilitating collaboration across diverse groups. I focus on aligning shared goals and turning ideas into actionable strategies. In a previous role, I worked in a cross-functional capacity where I brought together partners from different sectors to work on shared initiatives. In that position, I coordinated communications, helped identify common priorities, and supported the development of clear, actionable plans. This experience strengthened my ability to navigate diverse perspectives, build consensus, and move collaborative efforts forward effectively.
Can you share something that motivates you?
I’m motivated by building connections that lead to meaningful change, especially when collaboration creates greater impact than individual efforts.
How do you interact with networks on a daily basis when it comes to The Collaborative’s ethos of Learn, Connect, Act, rank them?
I’d rank them as Connect, Learn, then Act, though they often overlap in practice.
‘Connect’ is at the center of my day-to-day. I act as a conduit between EFSG members and the broader network, making sure people feel plugged in, heard, and engaged. That looks like regular check-ins, facilitating conversations, and thoughtfully designing convenings that bring the right people together. I’m often bridging perspectives and helping members find points of alignment or collaboration.
‘Learn’ shows up in how I support shared understanding across the network. I help put together our policy roundup newsletters for EFSG members and collaborate with our team to build out agendas for our quarterly meetings, making sure there’s space for meaningful learning and exchange.
Act is about helping turn ideas into motion. I track follow-ups, align priorities, and make sure conversations and insights actually move forward in a tangible way.
Overall, my role is about helping the network connect, learn from each other, and take action in a thoughtful, coordinated way.
Any hobbies to share/how are you taking care of yourself these days?
I do archery on the weekends and also ice skate as well. 🏹⛸️ I want to learn how to swim before the summer starts.
